Staining deck has more to do than buying paint can and brushing it on your deck. Deck is an elevated surface homeowners build in their yards. Surface preparation holds utmost importance in preparing the deck for a better and lasting finish. Since decks are outside they hold maximum of dirt and dust over time. Deck stains adhere long if they are applied on cleaned and treated surface. You can make use of the following tips to make your deck clean.

1)    Prepare The Deck:  

• You can start preparing the deck by removing any furniture and large debris from it.
• Sweep off the dust with help of broom. Pile off the small debris, leaves etc and push the pile into a dustpan or trash bag.
• Remove debris stuck between planks with the help of an instrument like butter knife.
• Rinse the deck using a hose. Pressure of water will work in cracks and crevices to leave them clean.

2)    Use Oxygen Bleach For Cleaning:

•  Prepare the solution of oxygen bleach in a bucket.
• Apply the cleaner to the floor with help of a scrub brush.
•  Rinse off the deck with help of pressure washer.
• Repeat for tough stains and rinse well.

You can alternatively use oxygen bleach solution to the pressure washer to reach in between the slats. Do read the instructions given on cleaner how much of amount is permissible to put in pressure washer. Consider keeping a good distance between surface and nozzle of pressure washer. It will help you avoid possible damages due to heavy pressure.

Required items for carrying on the activity: Broom, dustpan or trash bag, slim tool, scrub brush, garden hose with spray attachment, bucket, pressure washer, cleaning solution and water.
